Hellooooo-ooo! Welcome! I’m Jenny, an Illustration-Artist based in Dorset.

Here’s a mini deep-dive into my work, my practice, my process. I am becoming more and more interested in the line and how it might wonder. I like to play with it and let it roam. This might dance on the edge of abstraction – the line might become the branches/leaves of a tree, the foam of a breaking wave, a character’s hair… or it might also just be a squiggle. The looseness – the playfulness – of this really excites me.

I have to remind myself that I’m not interested in replicating what I see. I want my work to be a response. And in that, a window into a little exciting thing, a different perspective, and perhaps a different way of seeing. The work is always only ever the beginning, it continues, it evolves, it wonders. The point is not product, but process. It’s like when people say it’s not the end destination, but the journey that’s the thing. For me, it’s not the ‘finished’ visual neatly tied up in a bow, but the workings out, the experiments, the flow – that’s what it’s about for me.

In terms of themes and ideas, I am consistently drawn to people and the great outdoors. It is the relationship between one and other that appeals to me. This is set against the backdrop of mental health and how exposure to nature can plant seeds of joy. I am deeply interested in how we function as people, and fundamentally how we connect. Perhaps the overarching theme that my work circles around is landscapes – be they physical and external, or intangible and internal.
